Where Rosebud excels
To be fair, Rosebud does some things really well.
Where Daylogue is stronger
For users who want both AI depth and true encryption.
Encrypted storage by default
Your journal content is end-to-end encrypted at rest. We literally cannot read it, even if we wanted to.
Clearer AI privacy model
We're explicit about what happens. Content decrypted on your device, sent transiently, returned, encrypted again. No plaintext in logs, analytics, or caches.
Zero staff access to content
Rosebud's policy allows authorized staff to access data for technical support. Daylogue's architecture makes that impossible.
Deeper conversational AI
Our AI asks follow-up questions, builds context over time, and generates rich summaries and themes. Not just prompts and pattern reports.
Reliable offline access
Full offline functionality. Rosebud relies heavily on internet connectivity.
Lower cognitive load
One-tap check-ins, mood tracking, and daily prompts that don't require you to figure out what to write.
Common questions
Is Rosebud HIPAA compliant?
Rosebud states they have BAAs (Business Associate Agreements) with their cloud and AI providers, which aligns with HIPAA requirements. This may matter if you're using the app in a professional healthcare context. Daylogue does not claim HIPAA compliance. Our focus is on architectural privacy through encryption.
Can Rosebud staff read my journal?
According to Rosebud's privacy policy, authorized staff can request access to sensitive user data for resolving technical issues. With Daylogue's end-to-end encryption, staff access to your content is technically impossible.
Which app has better AI features?
Both use AI for journaling. Rosebud focuses on guided prompts, pattern recognition, and weekly reports. Daylogue's AI engages in deeper conversation, asks follow-up questions, and generates richer summaries and themes over time. The "better" choice depends on whether you want structured guidance or open-ended reflection.
What happens to my data when AI processes it?
In both apps, content is sent to third-party AI providers. Rosebud sends anonymized content to OpenAI, Anthropic, or Groq with Zero Data Retention agreements. Daylogue decrypts content on your device, sends it transiently via AWS Bedrock, and deletes it after processing. Neither stores your content in plaintext for AI training.
Can I switch from Rosebud to Daylogue?
Both apps offer data export. You can export from Rosebud and start fresh with Daylogue. Direct import between platforms is not currently supported.
